Description
A photograph of the King Edward 7th monument located on Pier Head, Liverpool, Merseyside, UK, with the Port of Liverpool Building shown in the background. The monument comprises a bronze sculpture of Edward 7th on horseback, by Sir William Goscombe John, which stands on a granite plinth. The horse's stance, with arched neck and curved-in tail, is particularly characterful.
The Port of Liverpool Building, formerly known as Mersey Docks and Harbour Board Office, is made from Portland stone, and is a Grade II listed building. Designed by Sir Arnold Thornely and F.B. Hobbs, it was constructed between 1904 and 1907, and previously was headquarters of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board for 87 years, between 1907 and 1994. The building, along with the neighbouring Royal Liver and Cunard buildings, is one of Liverpool's so called Three Graces, which line the city's waterfront, and is also part of Liverpool's UNESCO-designated World Heritage Maritime Mercantile City.
