Artist's Description

A photograph by Philip Preston, with added digital paint effects, of the Palm House and pond at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London, UK. The Palm House was designed by Decimus and Nicole Burton, and was the first building to use large-scale structural wrought iron. Built between 1844 and 1848, today it is an iconic Victorian glasshouse, featuring a rainforest climate which supports a unique collection of tropical plants from some of the most threatened environments on Earth. The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, is a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site.

He became interested in photography during his teenage years after purchasing a Zenith fully manual SLR camera in the 1970s, primarily doing black and white work, developing his own films and producing prints in a makeshift darkroom in his parents bathroom! His first published print was in a 1978 edition of Ashai Pentax Photography magazine, featuring a portrait of a photogenic elderly man.
