Description
Lincoln Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lincoln, was constructed from 1088 onwards, and is located in the City of Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England, UK. Between 1311 and 1549, it was reputed to be the tallest building in the world, and currently is the third largest cathedral in Britain. The bishop of Lincoln, Hugh of Wells, was one of the signatories to Magna Carta and for hundreds of years the cathedral held one of the four remaining copies of the original, now securely displayed in Lincoln Castle. The photograph shows the west facing front entrance of the cathedral, viewed from the walls of Lincoln Castle.
